Our expert network

BREATHE has access to the data tools and support you need to understand health datasets and how to interpret them for crucial insights.

Our expertise includes a particular focus on genomics (led by Professors Martin Tobin and Ian Hall) and epidemiology (led by Professors Aziz Sheikh and Jenni Quint), as applied to chronic respiratory diseases. This is underpinned by an internationally recognised data science team (led by Professor David Ford).

Enabling the use of routinely collected healthcare data

We recognise there is huge potential in the use of de-personalised routinely collected healthcare data for research and are taking steps to improve its use.

We are developing a set of standardised phenotypes for key respiratory conditions to stimulate further research, prevent duplication of effort and encourage research reproducibility.

We also provide support for the use of phenotypes in research.

Our publicly available list of phenotypes for respiratory conditions is available via the recently updated HDR UK Phenotype Library, which also includes information related to other disease areas.
